Foundation launches new mobile App to help Canadians take control of their risks

Ottawa − The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s 2011 Report on Canadians’ Health warns that nine out of 10 Canadians are jeopardizing the quality and length of their lives. The Foundation found that many Canadians are in denial about their risk factors for heart disease such as being overweight and being physically inactive − risk factors they can manage and control.

Innovative videos clearly illustrate proper food handling

The ‘Food TLC’ series takes a food safety management system approach to food safety at home by following food from the grocery store, to preparation, cooking, storing and reheating. The series of stories is told by ‘Marissa the Meat Maven’ an animated character who conveys the messages in a consumer-friendly way while keeping the videos fun and engaging.

Two New Brunswick brothers – both in their 60s – have come together late in their working careers to create goExplore Canada, the first big, big smartPhone travel app for all of Canada.

“Our goal was the most complete travel app for Canada,” said Mark Pedersen, 62. “If you’re traveling in Canada, this is the app you want to have.”

With that goal in mind, the producers are reaching beyond the big cities to include attractions in smaller communities as well, plus their hotels, restaurants and shops.
