Volunteers across the country are being recognized this week as National Volunteer Week kicks off. From Goose Bay to North Bay, Canadians who donate their time and talents continue to be a driving force in Canada's economy.

Erica Thompson spends her days coordinating the cross-country Conservation Volunteers program for the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). She sees the positive impact Canadians make every day on the environment.

Bigger than prom: the 30 Hour Famine

The 30 Hour Famine is a fun event allowing Canadian students to helps children globally by supporting World Vision projects.

For many it's bigger than prom - a night where kids get to take over their schools, walls come down between cliques and everyone has a giant party to celebrate the change they are making in the world. The World Vision 30 Hour Famine (famine.ca) is the largest youth fundraising event in the world to fight poverty and hunger. It's also a fun night, and a social highlight for schools and youth groups across Canada. Every group gets to plan a unique event as they go without solid food for 30 hours.
