Spring forward into volunteering
As the snow begins to melt and winter leaves us for yet another year, spirits are lifted with the warming springtime sun. This spring, why not lift the spirits of others by volunteering your time. Volunteering can be as simple as helping out a neighbour in need, assisting a local charity looking for some extra hands, or joining forces with a larger global campaign. Here are some easy ideas to get you started:
Get involved locally – There are so many ways in which you can help out in your own community. It could be as simple as cleaning up garbage from local parks after the snow melts, spending time with seniors by taking them for a walk to enjoy the warmer weather, or helping a local charity fundraise money and collect needed supplies.
Act out for the world – Choose a globally focused cause that you are passionate about and learn what you can do to help. Check out famine.ca and find out about World Vision’s annual 30 Hour Famine. The 30 Hour Famine is an event that is easy to support and puts you alongside thousands of youth around the world all joining together to fight end child hunger.
Spread the word – Now that you’re involved and interested, spread the word to your friends by creating a Facebook group and inviting them to join. You can easily share messages, create events, and simply make them aware about the cause that you are passionate about. You could also use your Twitter account to share messages about your favorite organization and keep your friends up to date about the impact you’re making; you might even spark their interest. Together we can make a difference, one person, and one situation at a time.
