The documentary Jeff Nicklin: Hero of the Gridiron and the Battlefield received Platinum Awards in both the Documentary and History/Biography categories at the 2009 EMPixx Awards. The Nicklin film tells the story of Lt-Col Jeff Nicklin -- an all-star with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers who was killed in action while leading the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion on the drop into the Rhineland in March1945.
A vignette based on the film called the Jeff Nicklin Memorial Trophy also won a Gold Award at the 22nd Annual International Mercury Awards in New York City, later advancing to and winning in the Grand Award category. This competition featured more than 980 entries from 20 countries.
