WAR AMPS MARKS D-DAY 65th ANNIVERSARY WITH RE-RELEASE OF DOCUMENTARIES
OTTAWA, May 22, 2009 -- June 6th, 1944 is well-known as the day the Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy. To mark the 65th anniversary of this monumental event, The War Amps is re-releasing three one-hour documentaries from its internationally award-winning Military Heritage Series.
D-Day: The Story of the Canadian Assault Troops tells of the achievements of Canadians, who got further inland on D-Day than any of the other forces in Normandy. The story continues in Operation Charnwood: The Canadian Battle for Caen, depicting the battle to dislodge the Germans from Caen. Take No Prisoners is the chilling story of more than 130 young Canadians who were taken prisoner and murdered by the 12th SS Hitler Jugend in Normandy.
The War Amps has also produced a two-minute vignette called Juno Beach, which is based on the full-length D-Day documentary. It can be viewed on The War Amps Web site at waramps.ca/dday_juno/home.html.
Produced by War Amps CEO and D-Day veteran Cliff Chadderton, and funded by corporate donations, the documentaries and vignette will air on regular, specialty and community channels on and around June 6th. The documentaries are also available at a cost-recovery price of $12 each (DVD or VHS) by calling 1-800-250-3030 or visiting waramps.ca.
As an additional commemoration, Mr. Chadderton has launched a special section on his blog (cliffchadderton.ca) which gathers together his previous entries related to D-Day and he will continue to add new entries through the D-Day and Normandy Campaign anniversary period.
