War Amps Key Tag Mailing Invites Public Into Picture (Manitoba Copy)
MANITOBA, May 2003 - As its popular key tags go out to Manitoba residents this week, The War Amps is inviting the public to become part of the picture by supporting its many programs and services for amputees.
This theme is illustrated in the mailing's brochure, featuring photos of members of The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, which provides funding for artificial limbs, counselling and regional Seminars.
War Amps Chief Executive Officer Cliff Chadderton, who lost a leg in the Second World War, explains that the theme came about when he was recently recalling some of the unforgettable images from his years with
The War Amps.
"These include Padre Sidney Lambert, lifetime President of The War Amps, comforting a dying triple amputee at Sunnybrook Hospital in 1945. Or Allan Piper using his hooks to operate the switch to produce our first key tag in 1948," Chadderton said.
Some of Mr. Chadderton's other "snapshots" include: a civilian amputee
walking with pride on his first artificial legs; a child with multiple amputations operating a computer with his feet through the Association's Operation JUMPSTART; a Newfoundland mother of a newborn baby with an
amputation being matched with an experienced CHAMP mother; War Amps taking the salute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as the silent crowd weeps.
"By supporting The Key Tag Service, Canadians can put themselves in the picture and help us continue to add to this wonderful collection of images," Chadderton said.
The War Amps receives no government grants. Its programs are possible solely through public support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service. For more information on The War Amps, or to order Key Tags if you do not
