Throw Your Garberator A Bone, Says In - Sink - Erator
MARKHAM, ON, April 8, 2003...Food waste disposers are installed in about half of North American homes, and studies show consumers value the convenience and confidence a disposer gives them in the kitchen. However, In-Sink-Erator, the world’s largest manufacturer of disposers and hot water dispensers, says many homeowners have misconceptions that keep them from getting the most from this important appliance.
“Many of our customers don’t know, for example, that their disposer can handle hard food waste, like peach pits, chicken bones and even steak bones,” says Dave MacNair, In-Sink-Erator Vice President - Marketing. “In fact, we recommend the hard stuff, not only to eliminate one of the messiest parts of food preparation and clean-up, but because bones are actually good for the disposers. They scour and help clean the inside of the grind chamber.”
MacNair encourages consumers to visit the company’s web site ( insinkerator.com ) for more surprising “Do’s And Don’ts” for disposer owners including…
1. Do use cold water instead of hot when running the disposer
2. Don’t use your disposer for cornhusks, artichokes and other fibrous foods that do not grind well, and can cause drain blockage.
3. Do grind peelings from lemons and other citrus fruit to freshen drain smells.
MacNair also says most food waste disposer owners are unaware they can usually
fix basic problems without calling in a plumbing contractor or service agency. The
In-Sink-Erator web site includes a Troubleshooting Guide that informs consumers what
to try first if their disposer jams, drains slowly or doesn’t run at all.
Consumers can also use the “Selecting a Disposer” function found on
www.insinkerator.com to determine the right food waste disposer for their home, based
on factors including family size and dining habits. The site will provide a specific
In-Sink-Erator model recommendation, along with performance and feature
information.
